CONSTIPATION Constipation can be defined as slow bowel movement which means a person is not passing stool every day, or he is not clearing the intestine completely, or he is not clearing at the same time every day. Normally stool should be formed, like a banana, should not be hard like pebbles. If your stool floats in the pot it is either full of gas or unabsorbed fat. Colour of the stool can also speak volumes about your health. In Sujok the intestine can be stimulated to improve its health as shown in the diagram, by massaging the designated area in the direction of arrows, which coincides with the actual movement of the intestine. Colour can be applied as a method of colour therapy. Putting green colour to the large intestine will give the deficient urge to defecate and help in giving peristaltic movement to the intestine. If the stool is hard the same diagram can be massaged, also putting red colour, instead of the green will help you further. If stool is like pebbles, like that of goat’s, small and separated, then same can be drawn in yellow colour to give the humidity. We can also put these colours as 1st day Green, 2nd day Red and 3rd day Yellow. Once you start understanding colours you can start using them as per your digestion. Massage and colour, both if done for sometime regularly will cure any chronic constipation or related problems like depression, migraine, asthma, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), diarrhea, acidity, hair loss, graying and baldness. INDIAN HERBS • Triphla : a combination of amla, haritaki, bibhitaki can be taken at night. • Turmeric powder dissolved in milk or warm water can be taken in the night. Turmeric kills fungi and bacteria and reduces inflammation. Hence a good cure for constipation and diarrhea. FOOD • Drinking enough water about 8 to 10 glasses a day. • Fiber food sweeps the waste matter in the intestine. Apples, plums or prunes, pear, kiwi, broccoli, carrots, flax seeds, chia seeds and oats. At least three to four of these items should be consumed every day. If the stool is too dry (like small pebbles) specially in small children and older adults, a tablespoon of castor oil or cow ghee can be taken at night with milk, soup or warm water. EXERCISE It is very important to be active throughout the day. Sam wong gong and sam wong dong exercises help to relieve constipation. In yogic exercise Supta matsyandrasana is considered very helpful. Early morning walk is highly recommended. DON’TS Any edible item that dries your mouth will give constipation. Red meats, breads especially white, very finely grounded flour (maida), noodles and pasta, fast foods, processed foods and frozen dinners, alcohol, caffeine in excess, some supplements like iron and calcium, and dairy products.

Vigorous exercises like gym at night or late evening would again charge the body and affect the circadian cycle. Smart phones brightness should be reduced in the evening, so as not to make abnormal levels of cortisol hormones and give the feeling of day time to the brain.
