REVERSAL OF DIABETES Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder, in which the patient has high glucose levels in the blood. The insulin production by the pancreas is either deficient or the body cells are resistant to insulin. There are two ways of looking after your diabetes. Firstly by exercise and then by correct diet. Both are equally important. EXERCISE Firstly activating the beta cells of the endocrine pancreas by walking, running, yoga, smile tai-chi, sam won dong, sam won gong. Playing out door games, cycling, swimming etc. Please choose an exercise which you enjoy doing. Change it before you lose interest in it and pick up a fresh one which will continue your exercise regime. Yoga asana like Dhanurasan, Halasana, Paschimottanasana help in stretching out vital muscles. Sun bath and Surya namaskar (Sun salutations), sitting or exercising in the morning sun for at least 45 minutes will be very rejuvenating for the depressed or unhealthy pancreas. Muscles use glucose without insulin when we exercise. One must use all the muscles of the body through different exercises. Physical activity also keeps the heart strong which is also made of muscles. Checking blood sugar regularly is important to understand what spikes up the sugar and what helps in bringing it down. Stress or any unfortunate incidents are not good for Diabetes. It is difficult when children are found to be type 1 diabetic, it is a very big challenge to keep them away from harmful food items. Very tactfully and lovingly they should be looked after. Since diabetes is considered to be genetic it would be a healthy way of living if children of diabetic parents are also restricted a little and refrain themselves from eating too much foods with high glycemic index. Alcohol is high in carbs hence it should be consumed with restraint. DIET The other way to control diabetes is by eating a balanced diet which is more plant based. Food should be eaten at fixed times every day so that we do not confuse the body clock. The practice of having dessert after a meal is a definite no . The next item after meal should be consumed only after 2-3 hrs. An average working male adult should not consume more than 2500 calories. Female it is 2000 calories and children in age group of 5 to 10 yrs should not be given more than 1800 calories, spread over 6 to 7 meals. DIABETIC SMILE DIET 1st . Friends and family should be informed so that they do not force wrong eating. Refined oils are not good for diabetic health, cold pressed oils can be substituted. Canola, olive, rice bran, flax seed, coconut, sesame, mustard oil, etc can be used. It is a good way to use two three oils for different preparations. SUJOK AND DIABETES Needling, magnets, seeds, colour, pressure are used in sujok for treatment. Hypothalamus controls the appetite which is stimulated in Sujok for controlling desire for food. Pancreas and islets of langerhans are stimulated to make insulin. Meridians and chakras are balanced. Correspondence points are activated. Time of eating food, and maintaining the discipline is very important. This way the metabolism remains in perfect condition. Eating fewer times and skipping meals confuses the brain and it starts hording the food without digesting it. Helping others and having a joyous disposition aids in curing diabetes. Diabetes usually strikes in middle aged women when “empty Nest Syndrome” sets in. People with Diabetes should find time to actually run and play, smile and laugh, dance and sing, meditate. Meditation is a great healer. Discipline is key to reversal of diabetes.

@ DROPPING TEMPERATURE A fall in the temperature of even one-degree centigrade can lead to many health problems. As the body becomes cold in the winter season, the blood vessels constrict forcing the water out. This makes the blood thicker, which may develop clots and increase the risk of heart problems. People who have weaker lungs may develop emphysema, bronchitis and asthma. Lower back pain, knee pains and other joint pains develop specially for people having arthritis. The problem of frequent urination or urinary retention, fatigue, vertigo, anxiety, fear, high blood pressure and headaches are also usually seen. Dressing properly is very important to keep the body warm, by covering the neck and shoulder with the scarf especially for very young and old people will prevent them from catching a cold. The cold energy enters through the foot. It is important to wear socks which are right for the particular temperature. Encouraging manual workers this Christmas to wear socks and shoes will take a long way in improving the health of our world health. The amount of heat that you can lose through your head also depends on how thick your hair is. Older people with scanty hair must wear hat or woollen cap or muffler. Women usually feel colder than men. It’s a good idea to wear clothes in layers which allows adjusting the body temperature during night and day temperature or in different levels of activities. Washing the hands in winters is important as cold, cough, sneezing etc, transmits germs when we touch the eyes, nose and mouth. Taking shower with very hot water will open the pores of the skin which will let the warm energy out. Hence warm water is a better option. We have to live in harmony with the seasons. For this, we have to change our habits so that there is a balance between the body and environment. A mindful living will make life easy and happy. It would be a great idea to wake up as the sun rises, sit in the sun for some time if possible, and eat the fruits and vegetables which are grown in the winter season and also the food of your native land which is constitutionally good for you. These keep the immune system strong and keep away the diseases. Food can be cooked on slow fire with less water. Keeping healthy in winters will keep the youthfulness intact and prevent ageing. In winters especially reduce the quantity of salt. Drink sufficient water, avoid horror films if you have a tendency to catch a cold (fear is coldness energy) try to keep away from stressful situations. Do check what your child is watching, eating, wearing, sleeping and waking up time can be monitored too. In the winter month or in old age which is the winter of life, the bodies begin to dry. The hair and bones become brittle and the skin becomes rigid just like mind which also becomes inflexible dry and cold. Many times older people are fixed with their ideas, this is because of the coldness and dryness energy. If you want them to change this Christmas the younger children and young people must rub their heat and loving energy with their parents and grandparents. See the happiness in their lives and your own. All red fruits and root vegetables, cabbage ect., will bring heat and keep away the cold. So depending on your body type you can balance and maintain your body temperature. Citrus fruits, nuts, dry fruits, strawberries, black beans, kidney beans, walnuts, sesame seeds, red chillies, ginger tea, onions, turmeric and mustard oil, and most dark colour foods will nourish the body in the winter season. Drinking excess alcohol causes the blood vessels to widen due to which the body heat is lost faster. This festival do check your glasses. Animals hibernate in winters. For human beings also it is important to take more rest, sleep well, and reduce long working hours. A good time to meditate, look inwards and connect to our inner soul, relaxing the mind and calming the emotions. Ears are the organs which get affected in winters. Among the body parts, the bones get more affected. People who take non-vegetarian food can consume bone soup. Some people enjoy the winters, they have a deficiency of coldness energy in them. Such people can receive energy during the winter season. They can actually walk barefoot on the grass or the earth. On the other hand, there are people who do not feel healthy during winters, so they have to follow the above regimes thereby harmonizing their bodies. Fear is the main emotion of winters. Wisdom is the mental energy which is also associated with a cold. There is a thin line between fear and wisdom. Old age is the age of wisdom.

NAIL DIAGNOSIS A nail is horn like envelop covering the tips of fingers and toes with the tough protective protein called alpha keratin. The oriental Korean philosophy believes if something happens to the interior of the body it should reflect in the exterior. A very easy way of diagnosing and checking for health problems is just looking at the nails. Healthy body is reflected by good shining nails with no ridges, discoloration, or deformity. The color of the nail describes the inner health clearly like pale nails shows anemia yellow nails show deficient liver and bluish hue of the nail indicates delicate lung and heart. White spots can be a sign of magnesium, calcium and zinc deficiency. Such a person could have low immunity, inflammation in GI tract, chronic loose stools or headaches. Vertical lines or ridges are due to deficient circulation of vitamins and other minerals in the nails and the body as the whole. With age people start getting these vertical lines. Cutting down on gluten and other inflammatory foods like cheese and meat would be good for health. Transverse grooves which are parallel to the moons happen usually after infection, heart issues and fever. If there are multiple lines, it shows repeated attacks of metabolism dis-functioning and infections. Sometimes it could be also a sign of over and under functioning of thyroid. Nail bed inflammation is a sign of parasite or viral infection. Well formed cuticles show good health of the gut or the large intestine. People with dried, rough or peeled cuticles could be constipated and would benefit by taking acupuncture. Lunula is crescent shaped whitish area at the bed of a finger nail or a toe nail. No moons or extremely small moons or lunula are a sign of poor metabolism or weak circulation. A good lunula can take up to one fifth of the nail. This shows good fire and healthy metabolism. Extra large lunula could mean cardiovascular problem, heart beat destruction and low blood pressure. It could also show high level of stress, large lunulae are found more in athletes. Grey lunulae is a sign of fatigue and poor digestion. Purple lunulae show lack of oxygen in organs and tissues. Pink lunulae indicates lung problem, and black lunulae which are very rare shows metal poisoning Dry and brittle nails show a problem with a hormones could be thyroid or even fungal infection. Foods and minerals for healthy nails Eating herbs like cinnamon, ginger and black pepper preferably in the form of tea, fiber rich foods, green vegetables and room temperature water in intervals between foods. Almond, olive or coconut oil massage would help the nails externally. A good scrub with a towel after bath each day could influence good energy flow in the meridians and lead to good health. Foods which are rich source of silicone and sulphur such as fish, broccoli, cauliflower and onions. Soya and whole grains are big source of biotin which promotes healthy nails. The deformity in different finger nails according to oriental philosophy represent different organs which is well understood by Sujok therapists.

COLD SEASON If an individual is deficient in body heat he will not be able to defend himself from the cold or infections. When your body, specially extremities are cold the circulation of blood is deficient. For such people warm clothing, as well as covering the feet is very important. Warm and well cooked food should be taken. As the digestion becomes poor because of deficient heat, foods which are easily digestable should be consumed. Stool could have undigested food particles or loose which is an indication that the kind of food he or she is taking has to change, could avoid raw food specially in the nights. People with cold energy have a tendency to withdraw and be less communicative. Here they can tell their family intervene and help by involving them in discussions. Many time we have heard people saying that their blood pressure increased after a heated discussion. Tongue and pulse being pale and slow is also an indication of cold will. Such people start loosing identity or even friends and work. Exercise would help build heat energy. Jogging, running, physical activity will all help. Parents of such children should be careful that nobody bullies them as cold weather is equivalent to fear or emotional level will be more and the child will further deteriorate physically as well as mentally. Old people normally in the age bracket of 60 years and ahead have a lot of coldness within them, so the cold weather effects them the most. They should be given warm food, should stay more in warm room or wear enough of woollens. In no circumstances they should sit out in the open at night. Feet should always be kept warm. Soak themselves in sun during the day. Sleep early and get up after sun rises, specially for people who have a tendency to catch cold during winters. To be more fertile the couple must sleep well. They must feel fresh when they wake up. This will strengthen their chances of conceiving. Cold foods, frozen meats, preserved and stale food should be strictly avoided by everyone. You will not be surprised at catching cold after a horror film ! Rest more! Get plenty of sleep. Try to eat 5 small meals rather than 3 big meals. Ginger water is good for cold weather. Sujok Acupuncture helps to move the energies in the body, push the cold away by bringing warmth or heat energy inside. Moxibustion over appropriate acupuncture points will help a lot by introducing heat to the right points. Warm baths and warm friends are a good option too. This treatment will bring a glow to otherwise pale faces. If there is phlegm in the body with cold symptoms, then it is very important to take professional help and remove them. Cold energy is equivalent to wisdom mentally just as it is similar to fear emotionally. So fear should be used as wisdom just like in Russia, because of too much cold, where for months there's no vegetation so people started preserving food. This is a sign of wisdom. Similarly in this winter season we should live life with wisdom, careful adding warmth through desire and sunlight, warm clothing, warm soups, dry fruits instead of too much fresh and raw vegetables and fruits.
